Sharing Information Is Power!

I was reading an article in Forbes this morning and this quote from David Sacks stood out to me:
David Sacks, CEO of Yammer: “‘Information is power’ used to mean that hoarding information gave you power. Now we’re seeing that sharing information is power. The more you can share, the more you can help other people—and the more it becomes apparent you’re an expert and a valuable employee.”

Wow, the more information you share the more powerful you become. Think about it!

Adding Value

How many times in the past couple of years have you heard some one say “You need to add value and you will become successful”?
I can not count the number of times that I have heard that. Its like it is something that is totally new. But in fact that concept has been around for thousands of years. Its biblical: Matthew 19:21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” God is saying give what you have of value to those who are in need of it and you will be rewarded with far more.
In today’s terms and in relation to social media marketing, it means to give what knowledge you have to those online that don’t have the same knowledge and you will be reward far greater than if you don’t. To be successful online you must add value. This is not a new concept but it is a time honored one.

What can I do to add value?
The list of things that you can do to add value is almost limitless. First and foremost, increase your knowledge base. In order to attract people to you have knowledge that they don’t have and then share it. IE: Attraction Marketing but that is another post.
Other ways to add value:
Share items you like or find interesting, movies, quotes, news items, videos and other things you find interesting.
Share stories about your life via a personal branded blog. post articles about what you know. If you love cooking post your favorite recipes. If you love to ski write an article about your last ski trip.
People find value in knowing about you.
Just taking time to help someone with a problem they are having will add value. Something as basic and simple as a kind word and a smile that brightens someones day will add value.
The number of ways to add value are almost limitless, just use your imagination. People will find what you have to say interesting and valuable.
So when the opportunity arises today, add value and you will be rewarded immensely.
